Jennifer Byers, PMHNP, ANP
Jennifer is board certified by the American Credentialing Center as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. She received her Masters of Science degree from Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington. She earned her Bachelor of Science; Nursing with a minor in Psychology from University of Alaska, Alaska. Jennifer has worked in a variety of nursing settings; both medical and psychiatric. As an experienced clinician, she has spent the last several years working in an outpatient psychiatric mental health setting providing medication management. She has also worked for Gonzaga University assisting graduate and doctorate level nursing students with their educational needs. Jennifer has also worked with several University of Alaska, Anchorage undergraduate and master level nursing students with their clinical rotations.
Jennifer utilizes this experience to assist her patients in improving their quality of life. Mental health challenges have biological, psychological, and social roots. Jennifer provides medication management to address symptoms with brief person-centered therapeutic support to help identify and work towards resolution of the root causes. She has developed a referral network of talented individual therapists when ongoing therapy is appropriate.
Her mission is to provide personalized high-quality care. She believes working together as a team is the best approach to gain successful outcomes. Jennifer believes both medications and healthy lifestyle changes are essential in providing balanced care. Jennifer strives to create a relaxed and safe environment. Jennifer also is a strong advocate of providing education about the diagnosis and treatment options so all involved can make informed decisions regarding their care and treatment.
Gabriele Gerteisen, ANP
Gabriele, also known as GG has 30+ years treating children, adolescents, and adults with a wide variety of psychiatric mental health needs. In her 30+ years of experience she was one of the founders of the only psychiatric emergency room in Anchorage, Alaska. She has extensive focus on preventive care and mental health education. She specializes in Autism Spectrum and Bipolar Disorder.
Gabriele's mission is to provide patients of all ages and backgrounds with excellent clinical services for their psychiatric mental health needs by utilizing therapeutic techniques most appropriate to the patients needs, whether biological, psycho-social or a combination.
When not working; Gabriele enjoys spending time with her grandchildren and in the outdoors with her German Shepherd "Moxie."
Nikki McDermott, APRN
Nikki is a dual board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) and Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP). She earned her Master of Science in Nursing as a Family Nurse Practitioner from the University of Alaska Anchorage in 2024 and completed her post-master’s certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner at Maryville University in 2025.
As a third-generation Alaskan, Nikki has a deep understanding of the unique and diverse experiences of the communities she serves. With over a decade of nursing experience, including eight years in Labor and Delivery at Alaska’s only high-risk medical center, Nikki brings extensive expertise in women’s health and high-acuity clinical care. Her dual certification allows her to approach psychiatric and substance use disorders with a comprehensive perspective, integrating both medical and mental health considerations to address underlying causes of illness.
Nikki is dedicated to serving patients across the lifespan and from diverse backgrounds, with a particular focus on pregnant and postpartum individuals facing mental health and substance use challenges. Her mission is to provide compassionate, evidence-based care that is individualized, respectful, and free of stigma, while supporting patients on their path toward healing and stability.
Outside of her professional practice, Nikki enjoys spending time with her family and embracing Alaska’s natural beauty through hiking, camping, four-wheeling, running, and berry picking.

Kourtney Hearn, LCSW
Kourtney received her Masters of Social Work degree from Arizona State University. She earned her Bachelor of Social Work and a Associates of Applied Science - Human Services from University of Alaska. Kourtney has worked in both inpatient and outpatient facilities providing therapeutic services in the Matanuska Valley.
Her mission is to provide a safe, supportive space where you can explore your feelings, heal, and grow. Therapy is a collaborative process, built on trust and respect. Her approach is client-centered, meaning she tailors the work together to meet your unique needs, values, and goals.
Kourtney was born and raised in Alaska. She enjoys the endless outdoor opportunities Alaska has to offer. On her off time, if she isn't enjoying the outdoors, she spending quality time with her friends and family.
